The route to your dream garden
We take you on a carefully planned workflow to ensure you get a garden you love. All stages are necessary for the successful creation of a garden - no matter the size. This ensures a resilient garden that meets your needs and truly stands the test of time.
Consultation
We meet with you to discover what you love, what you need and what you like to do in the garden. We listen to your brief, and take note of your garden design budget and timescales if you have any in mind. We explore your outdoor space, evaluating the potential to revitalise it, improve it, or radically overhaul it.
Site Analysis
We will have your site surveyed, taking note of its size, any levels and features, such as house services, man-hole covers etc. We will also take soil samples for analysis. A professional land surveyor will be engaged to carry out this task, as coordinated by LSGD.
The site survey will supply us with key information such as climatic factors, tree and vegetation information, routes of flow, etc. We will use the local DEFRA maps and reports to analyse biodiversity in your region to ensure this is accommodated in the design process, allowing your garden to be part of the wider ecological network.
Concept Masterplan
This stage encompasses us producing a concept masterplan for your new garden. We will use various 2D and 3D images to convey the new design and really immerse you in the space. We will show moodboards with proposed elements for the garden, materials and planting themes.
We will only proceed to the next stage when you are happy with the masterplan.
Detailed Drawings
In this stage we creates the fine details of the design, used to accurately cost and build the garden according to the intended design. Choice of materials are key and we work together to specify these accurately for the contractors.
We will provide construction drawings for your design elements, a layout plan, a setting out plan, and written specifications, and state the exact measurements, levels, materials and standards of construction.
The amount of information required depends on the complexity of the project. We will also produce the legally required Construction and Design Management (CDM) 2015 documents.
Construction
We can recommend a suitable contractor or if the site requires it, initiate a tender procedure. LSGD has decades experience working with high value tenders and will happily manage the procurement process in selecting a contractor if the site requires it.
We prefer and suggest that LSGD monitor the build of the garden on your behalf and work with the contractors to ensure the garden is built to our specifications. Being involved during the build is paramount as it ensures that the garden is built to the designed intention.
We suggest at a minimum that we attend the site at the start of the build and once a week, and to sign off and snag at completion.
Planting Plans
Plants add drama and atmosphere to a garden and can help connect your house into the wider landscape, whether it is in a rural or urban location.
With expertise in plants for Yorkshire gardens gained from The Yorkshire School of Garden Design, we will design a planting scheme for your new garden using plants that suit your garden’s soil type and environmental conditions, and bring out the most of your new garden design.
We can then source high quality plants from plant nurseries, lay them out according to the plan for you to plant them, or if you prefer, we can arrange planting for you.
